Just Keep Swimming

The summer months are coming to an end, but that doesn’t mean swim lessons have to end along with them!

Seal Swim School’s indoor locations are open year round and our water will be just as warm in December as it was in May.

Our water temperatures range from 88 degrees to 92 degrees all year long and our dehumidification system ensures that the air stays at a comfortable and complimentary temperature as well. This being said, our warm water isn’t the only thing we have going for us.

Swim lessons reduce the risk of drowning for children between the ages of one and four by eighty-eight percent.

Continuing lessons throughout the year will equip your child with lifesaving water safety skills and promote their overall growth and well being.

Repetition and Consistency

Children thrive on repetition and consistency. Consistency is the cornerstone of learning any skill. Children shouldn’t be expected to learn algebra overnight. These mathematical skills come from years of consistent and repetitive practice. This same consistent and repetitive practice is necessary for swimming. According to Khan Academy founder, Salman Khan, consistency and repetition allow a technique or skill to turn into a reflex. At Seal Swim School, we want the water safety skills and techniques we impart on your children to become second nature. Allowing your child to continue swimming year round will provide them with lifesaving reflexes that can be immediately utilized in case of an aquatic emergency.

Physical Growth and Development

Swimming is a low impact physical activity that enhances breath control and lung capacity while at the same time toning muscles and building endurance. The Better Health Channel states that swimming aids in alleviating stress as well as improving coordination, balance, posture, and flexibility. Furthermore, a scientific study at the German Sports College found that children who swim consistently from infancy grow to be significantly stronger and more coordinated than those who do not. Infants who participate in regular swim lessons show advanced motor skills which enable them to reach milestones such as learning to walk much faster than their non-swimming counterparts. Swimming aids in physical development and overall growth which lead to a healthier lifestyle and increased performance in other sports as well as various everyday activities.

Emotional Well Being and Confidence

Not only will your child grow physically stronger by swimming year round, but they will develop emotionally as well. The aforementioned study at the German Sports College found that year round swimmers have greater self-discipline accompanied by increased desires to succeed. Swim lessons involve continuous goal setting and achievement enabling children to practice these life skills while having fun in the pool. Using these skills year round in the pool will allow your swimmer to incorporate them into school or other sports and become a confident and well-rounded individual.

Neurological Development and Cognitive Ability

Swimming has an immense cognitive and neurologic effect on children. Research published by Brain World Magazine shows that swimming involves cross-patterning movements which trigger both cerebral hemispheres of the brain while also involving each of the four lobes at the same time. This brain activity increases cognition and eases the brain’s learning process. Researchers from the Griffith Institute for Educational Research have found that, in comparison to children who do not swim at a young age, swimmers are on average 6 months ahead in mathematics and problem solving, 17 months ahead when recalling stories, and 24 months ahead concerning following directions. Swimming allows children to develop crucial problem solving skills while increasing their memory and preparing them for school. Swimming enables your child to practice important skills long before their non-swimming counterparts and jump start their intellectual growth. Swimming year round with Sammy will help your child become all around safer, stronger, and smarter!
